Got a new e-reader?

The library's audio and e-book service, R.E.A.D.S., now offers access to over 15,000 public domain ebooks that were originally scanned by the Gutenberg Project. There are a few differences between these books and those in the regular READS collection that you need to be aware of before you use them. These are:

1. The titles are not integrated into our regular collection but can be accessed through a special link located on the bottom left of the READS homepage.

2. Checking out these titles does not count against your 15 item limit. This means you can check out an unlimited number of these public domain ebooks and still have 15 checkouts from the regular READS collection.

3. You do not have to sign into READS to download these ebooks.

4. These ebooks work like the "always available" audiobooks. An unlimited number of patrons can have the same ebook checked out at the same time.

7. The ebooks download into Adobe Digital Editions just like our regular ebooks.

There are MANY classic titles available so it should help a great deal if you have a class studying the same book.

Haven't purchased an e-reader yet and want to get one you know you can use with the READS program since they are free to you (with your library card)? There is a helpful link on the READS home page that will help you with your purchase decisions.
