Library books on the Kindle
After months of negotiations and the efforts of technical crews from both organizations, e-books from Overdrive can now be read on Amazon Kindles. The process is virtually the same as for other e-readers. When you check out a Kindle Book, a "Get for Kindle" link will be presented that opens a new window (or tab) at Amazon prompting you to login to your Amazon account. Fulfillment will occur at Amazon's website so you will need an Amazon account to access the library eBook in the Kindle format.
Once signed in, select which Kindle device or free Kindle app you want to deliver the title to for reading. Browse, check out, and fulfillment of Kindle books from READS can be completed from web browsers on PC and Mac, iPad, and numerous other tablet devices. Kindle users will be able to use Whispersync technology that synchronizes notes, highlights, and last page read on the Kindle device and free Kindle apps. Amazon will back-up your notes and highlights and they will be available if you decide to purchase the book later. Check-out for Kindle e-books is for two weeks. The help sections of the website have also been revamped and are much easier to use and, well, helpful.
We are excited about library e-books now being available on the world's most popular e-reader!
