Steinway Study Breaks During Exam Week

Exam week is tough. The Brentwood Library has offered its support with extended hours, Pizza & Puppies, and a perfect place to study. Hundreds of Brentwood students have filled the halls, nestled between rows of books, and occupied just about every nook and cranny. There were even a few musical interludes by local students and library members on the Steinway Piano on loan from Steinway and Sons.

Jazz Concert & Steinway Fundraiser

The Brentwood Library & Steinway & Sons Presents:
John Birdsong & Friends Jazz Concert
Jazz concert & Steinway Fundraiser
Sunday, November 8
4:00-5:00PM
$10 suggested donation.

John Birdsong
Paula James Chavis (vocals)
Joe Davidian (piano)
Josh Hunt (drummer)

John Birdsong and Friends will perform classic jazz standards from “The Great American Songbook”. John Birdsong has been described as one of the most “soulful” upright jazz bass players in the Nashville area. Joe Davidian (piano) has released three albums under his name and tours nationally and internationally with his trio. Josh Hunt (drummer) has toured with Alison Krauss and Union Station, and is a member of the Jerry Douglas band. Paula James Chavis (vocals)  has performed background vocals for Kenny Rogers, in the Super Bowl Halftime for Kids, and in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on CBS.

Library Director Susan Earl says, “A Steinway piano is the best made piano in the world, respected by all professional musicians. Brentwood residents expect and deserve the best. A Steinway here at the library opens up the multiplicity of events that engage all of the community.”

A permanent Steinway piano will enrich quality performances and celebrate the arts within the Brentwood community. Other ideas include piano recitals and musical showcases.

According to Steinway and Sons, the Brentwood Library would be the first library in the Nashville area to own such a piano. Steinway and Sons has helped many middle Tennessee universities and organizations such as the Nashville Jazz Workshop, WO Smith Music School, and The Dance Theatre of TN.

Register here, call Brigid Day at 615-371-0090 ext. 8510, or e-mail dayb@brentwood-tn.org.

Steinway Initiative

Elaine Zhang, Claire Zang, and Rina Xu are three of the children who took turns filling our lobby with beautiful music on Monday, December 8th. The Brentwood Library has a privately owned Steinway piano on loan on which piano students may schedule a  performance.

The library hopes to acquire a Steinway of our very own for more community music performances, but we need your help. Please consider donating to our Steinway Initiative. You may click here for more information.
