After School Explorers for Grades K - 2

Do you know about After School Explorers? It's a fun, library-sponsored weekly program for kids in grades K - 2. We explore the world through books, games, activities, and crafts. After School Explorers meets on Tuesdays at 4:30. Please visit our website to register in advance, and be sure to register for EACH week your child would like to attend.

Mah Jongg fever has struck the Brentwood Library! We can't stop playing this fun game. Bring your Mah Jongg set (if you have one) and join us at the Brentwood Library for an afternoon of Mah Jongg. Take Your Bridge Game to the Next Level with our Intermediate Bridge Class!

Have you  mastered the basics taught in our Bridge for Beginners class, and you want to learn more? Then you're in luck! Our four-week Intermediate Bridge Class starts next Wednesday. Students should be familiar with the five-card major bidding convention as covered in text book, or they should have previously attended the beginner's bridge  class. The class curriculum will address advances, overcalls, take-out doubles, Stayman convention, Blackwood and Gerber convention.

Class fee: $50.00 (plus a $10.00 textbook fee if you do not already own "Bidding in the 21st Century.")

Join us for our FIRST day of Mah Jongg Club next week!

The Brentwood Library has Mah Jongg fever! The library staff memebrs are hooked on this game, so we're creating a weekly Mah Jongg club. Our first meeting is next Monday! If you enjoy Mah Jongg, you're welcome to join us. Please bring your Mah Jongg set, if you have one. No registration is necessary, just come play!

All ages and skill levels are welcome to enjoy this noncompetitive and fun atmosphere. Our on-site chess coach, Dr. Jim Lech from the Nashville Chess Center, teaches beginning fundamentals, as well as advanced strategies. The Scholastic Chess Club meets on the last Friday of every month. This event is always free of charge, and boards are provided. No reservations necessary… just come and play!

Teen Game Tournament

Mah Jongg and Backgammon

Game lovers of all ages meet at the library on the second Sunday of each month to play Mah Jongg and Backgammon. Bring your Mah Jongg set and join in on a game. Backgammon boards are provided! Beginners Bridge Class

This eight-week class introduces bridge through lessons followed by actual playing time to reinforce each lesson. This is a great format for the new bridge player, as well as bridge players who have been away from the game for several years. The student handbook used for this class is the ACBL book Bidding in the 21^stCentury.

Checkmate! Come to our Beginner's Chess Camp this Saturday.

Come and refine your chess skills during this special 4-hour Scholastic Winter Chess Camp for Beginners! Beginners are those who have not played in a rated tournament. On-site chess coach, Dr. Jim Lech from the Nashville Chess Center, will teach stratagies and engage students in structured play. Players should bring a snack. Parents are welcome, and boards will be provided.

Winter Chess Camps

The Brentwood Library will host two chess camps this winter! 

The Beginners Class is for chess players who have not played in a rated tournament. Our on-site chess coach, Dr. Jim Lech from the Nashville Chess Center, will teach strategies and engage students in structured play. Bring a snack. Parents are welcome, and boards will be provided.

The Advanced Class is for players who have played in a rated tournament. Dr. Lech will give no less than 4 hours of pure instruction that covers the opening, middle game, end game, and official tournament rules.  Then, students will play 1-3 tournament rounds, under tournament conditions.  There will be prizes!  Players should bring a lunch and snack. There will be a Bug-house tournament during the one hour lunch break.  Boards will be provided.
