Cool Dogs, Hot Cars, and Safety for Pets

The "dog days" of summer can be dangerous for pets – especially those pets left inside hot cars. Every year, countless dogs die after being locked in cars while their owners work, visit, shop, or run other errands. These tragic deaths are entirely preventable.

Did you know that on a 78 degree day, temperatures inside a car parked in the shade can exceed 90 degrees -- and hit a scorching 160 degrees if parked in the sun! It takes only minutes for a pet left in a vehicle on a warm day to succumb to heatstroke and suffocation. Visit Red Rover for more information, and take the pledge to NEVER leave your pets in a hot car!

Self Services Holds are Coming on MONDAY, MAY 13!

No more waiting in line!
Great news: To make the checkout process even easier, the Brentwood Library will introduce self-service pickup of holds on MONDAY, MAY 13! This will save you time, because you'll be able to pick up your holds yourself, without waiting in line. Since physical cards will be required to check out materials that are on hold, remember to bring the library card associated with that hold.

If you don't like carrying your library card with you, we recommend you try the Key Ring app. Key Ring lets you create a digital copy of any card by simply scanning the card's barcode or by manually entering the barcode number/membership ID. When it's time to check out library books, simply launch the Key Ring app, select your saved card, and scan the barcode from the screen. Yes, you can scan a barcode from your screen! How cool is that?!

If you can't find your library card, now is a great time to come get a replacement. Let's get ready to enjoy self-service holds!

Bring Your Library Card With You On March 11!

We'll be doing software upgrades on March 11, so we won't be able to look you up by name. For this reason, you must have your library card with you to check out materials on March 11. On that day, we will be able to check materials in and out. But for your security, we won't be able to do that if you don't have your library card with you.

Why are we telling you this now? We want to give you plenty of time to plan ahead and find your library cards!

    "Scents" and Sensibility

Fragrances surround us, and sometimes we scarcely notice them. But some people, especially those with asthma or allergies, are highly sensitive to scents and smells. If you’ve ever encountered a perfume ad in a magazine—and who hasn’t—then you know how well paper can absorb scents. With that in mind, we appreciate our patrons' consideration regarding fragrances, such as perfume or cigarette smoke. Those smells can permeate a book, causing a health issue for the next patron. Thank you for regarding the good health of others and helping us to maintain a quality collection for the use of all Brentwood citizens.
