Yoga for Kids

An exciting, age-appropriate yoga class just for kids, designed to foster coordination, cooperation , concentration, and a little silliness, while building attention and focus. 

Theresa Kuhn has been a yoga teacher since 2007 and teaches the Guided Meditation here at the Library. She holds several specialized training in yoga including YogaFit Kids and Radiant Child Yoga, but most importantly she is the mother of 4.

Instructor fee: $5.00 per class

Be Well, Brentwood! (progress)


We are officially more than a week into our challenge. Our team is checking in with each other frequently and we have some ideas and experiences to share with you.

Morning Yoga with Dierdre
From Robin:
I used to do yoga all the time, but after blowing out my knee and then getting pregnant, I let it fall to the side. Dierdre is a knowledgeable instructor and incredibly easy to follow. This is a class anyone can attend -- even with a bum knee and arthritic back I had no problem being able to do the poses. It is a great way to strengthen muscles and have some much needed "me" time.

Chair Awareness Through Movement® with the Feldenkrais® Method

I went to this class because I was really curious what it would be like. Fran was very welcoming. The first part was becoming more aware of our bodies. We focused on posture and breathing. It was very calming.

I have problems with my knee. It hasn't felt this good in months. This class was amazing.

Yoga

I've been in other yoga classes before and I didn't think I liked yoga. They took "the practice" way too seriously! Norman leads a playful class that incorporates fresh, new poses into the standard movements that offer a certain level of comfort in a session. He provides a positive and encouraging environment and will adapt poses for your level - whatever that may be!

Be Well, Brentwood!


The New Year brings a time of reflection and for some, the custom of making resolutions. Here at The Brentwood Library we are excited for a new adventure. A team of our employees will be participating in a wellness campaign and sharing our progress with you.

Whole Health

Our Be Well team will work together to encourage healthy living. Using library resources, we will share our experiences with various classes the library offers--from exercise, to recipes, to meditation, and simple living. We will share online resources, library programs, books, videos, and more.

Our Goal

This challenge will encourage us to look at how all the areas of our lives are connected. Instead of strictly limiting ourselves, we hope to add more of the good and fun together working toward our individual health goals.

We hope you will join us Be Well, Brentwood!

Meditation is not a one-sized fits all practice. Come explore several different approaches and techniques and begin to develop a meditation practice that calms your mind, de-stresses your body and lets your spirit free.

Presenter:
Theresa Kuhn is a registered Kripalu yoga teacher and Licensed Massage Therapist. She has been practicing yoga and meditation since 2001, studying many different styles and approaches, before turning her focus the uses of yoga and meditation in therapeutic settings.

Stress Relief


Looking for some stress relief? The Brentwood Library offers several programs to help you take a step away from your busy life and take some time for yourself.

Morning Yoga is offered on Mondays and Fridays at 10:00 am. The class teaches students the fundamentals of yoga postures and lays the foundation for an effective yoga practice. It focuses on improving flexibility and gaining clarity in the mind.

Restorative Yoga is offered Sundays at 3:00 pm. Beginning with slow, gentle movement, this class uses padded bolsters, blankets, blocks and chairs for a supportive environment to experience rest and relaxation in a wakeful state.

Tai Chi Qigong is offered Thursdays at 9:00 am. This is a beginners level class classthat concentrates on the very basics of Tai Chi and Qigong, with emphasis on form, focus, intention and changing weight safely. Students will learn warm up sequence, the crane and deer animal frolics and the first 6 movements of the sun style short form.

Tai Chi is offered Thursdays at 10:00 am. This class focuses on short form of Sun Style Tai Chi and Qigong. This low impact form of movement has been shown to promote relaxation, relieve tension and enhance the mind/body connection, while improving balance, coordination, posture, flexibility and muscle tone.

Guided Meditation is offered Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. This class offers a gentle guided meditation designed to help you hit the reset button on your nervous system and bring you a sense of peace and calm in one short hour.

Laughter-cise is offered Fridays at 11:15 am. This class teaches laughter exercises that can be practiced alone or in a group. Continuous short bursts of laughter produce profound physical, mental, and emotional benefits by forcing deep breathing, which increases oxygen delivery and lowers stress hormones. Research shows that one minute of continuous laughter is equal to ten minutes on a rowing machine!
