Stepping On: Building Confidence, Reducing Falls

New 7-week class starts Monday, May 4

Join this 7-week workshop where you’ll learn exercises and strategies to help prevent you from falling. Stepping On is a program that has been researched and proven to reduce falls in older people. It consists of a workshop that meets for two hours a week for seven weeks. Workshops are led by a health professional and a peer leader - some who, just like you, is concerned about falls. In addition, local guest experts provide information on exercise, vision, safety, and medications.

Topics include:
*simple and fun balance and strength training
*The role vision plays in keeping your balance
*How medications can contribute to falls
*Ways to keep from falling when out in your community
*What to look for in safe footwear
*How to eliminate fall hazards from your home

Is this workshop for you?
Stepping On is designed specifically for anyone who: is 65 or older; has had a fall; experienced loss of balance or “near falls” in the past year; is fearful of falling; lives at home; does not have dementia.

The fee for this 7-week program is just $20 and includes ankle weights, course materials, and a healthy snack at each class.

NEW SESSION - Strength and Cardio Interval Training


The absolute best way to stay in shape is to combine strength training and cardio through interval training. So we've added another session with health and wellness expert Leks Stanic!

Because this type of fitness training works so well, celebrities and celebrity trainers are opting for this style of training called high intensity interval training, Don't worry about the "high intensity" part! That's the beauty of having a personal trainer next to you to guide you and adjust the exercises for your individual level. So you can workout with a baby boomer one side and an athlete on another side, yet each of you will get the best workout for your personal needs! 

Our sessions are small, and our trainer does not work out with the group. Instead, Leks is there to make sure you have the proper form, the proper level of intensity, and that you are working out in a safe environment. You'll also use a lot of power bands (not resistance bands); it may seem that they are not doing much to raise your fitness, but once you start training with them, we are sure you'll change your mind! 

Your trainer, Leks Stanic, has made the transition from unhealthy to healthy lifestyle, and wants to help you do the same. To that end, she has over ten fitness and specialty certifications, so she can help you do it correctly and safely. Leks has worked with a wide range of people-- from athletes to people with specific needs, such as women with bone-loss issues, to large group training.

Strength and Cardio Interval Training


Celebrities and celebrity trainers are all about combining strength and cardio with a style of interval training called "high intensity" training. Join us for a 10-week session of Strength and Cardio Interval training on Thursday mornings beginning November 6th. The class will meet on Thursdays for 10 weeks from 10-11am.


The beauty of this session will be having a personal trainer next to you to guide you and adjust exercises to your level. You can workout next to a baby boomer one side and an athlete on another side, yet all of you will get the best workout particularly for you!

Our sessions are small and our trainer does not workout with the group but is there to make sure you have the proper form, proper level of intensity and that you are working out in a safe environment.  Instructor Bio: Leks Stanic, health and wellness expert, has formed CPFitBody studio after realizing how much false health information is provided to the public. Leks, who had once lived unhealthy herself, has learned on her own about proper lifestyle and discovered that anyone can benefit greatly from wellness programs. Leks has completed over ten fitness and specialty certifications through nationally recognized organizations such as NCSF, AFAA, Exercise, Etc. and IDEA. Her background consists of Strength & Conditioning, Track & Field and Muay Thai Kickboxing. She has worked with a wide range of people from athletes to people with specific needs such as women with bone-loss issues to large group training.

Leks and CPFitBody were recently featured on Nashville Channel 2 for a weight-loss workout and meal program they put together and CPFitbody was also voted #1 gym in Williamson County, TN. She is also on the best seller list as one of the authors of “Fad-Free Fitness Formula”. She constantly strives to learn more about body movement, fitness, and nutrition and loves educating others on the same. Leks currently runs CPFitBody studio located in Franklin, TN. CPFitBody offers private training, semi-private and small group training.

Introducing Pilates at the Library!

The Brentwood Library is proud to announce that we are adding Pilates classes to our regular line-up of programs!

Adding Pilates to your exercise routine will benefit your overall well-being in numerous ways. This class will go through a series of traditional Pilates exercises that will improve your core strength, increase your flexibility, create better postural alignment, develop your balance and give you a wider range of motion. Pilates is excellent for all ages and all levels of fitness, as the instructor will modify the class based on your needs and abilities. Please bring your own mat if you have one.

Instructor Maria Guse is a Romana's Pilates certified instructor. She completed a 600 hour certification program with Romana Kryzanowska, who was a direct protege of Joseph Pilates, the inventor of Pilates. Maria has been teaching Pilates for ten years and recently moved to Brentwood, where she teaches both private lessons and mat classes.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. To register, go to our events calendar and select the date you wish to register for. Click on it and follow the instructions.

NEW Exercise Class - Tai Chi Qigong Basics

For those new to Tai Chi Qigong, this class will concentrate entirely on the basics of Tai Chi and Qigong, with emphasis on form, focus, intention, and changing weight safely. Students will learn the warm up sequence, the crane and deer animal frolics, and the first 6 movements of the sun style short form. Once comfortable with these movements, students can continue to the Level II class with more confidence and awareness, fine tuning and learning the remaining 36 movements.

Chronic Back Pain Seminar

Consult the experts to find the source of your pain and learn how to feel better. Dr. David Sables, DPM will discuss how your feet may be causing your back pain. The answer could be in your big toe! Dr. Angela Gill, PT, DPT will discuss some of the common causes of back pain, and the basic anatomical structure of the spine. Dr. Rebecca Pugh, DC will discuss the importance of maintaining proper structural alignment, as improper alignment can affect the body by altering biomechanics, causing stress and injury to the joints. And Casey Derhak, WITS Certified Fitness Trainer will discuss how to strengthen the back, core, and hips to prevent back injuries with exercises that you can easily do in your own home.
