Brentwood Library Director Chuck Sherrill will be leaving next month to assume duties as Tennessee's State Librarian and Archivist. He said, "After ten wonderful years with the Brentwood Library, I am sad to leave. Working here has been a wonderful opportunity. But it is a great honor to be offered the important post of State Librarian, and I'm looking forward to new challenges."
In his new role Sherrill will be responsible for supervising a state agency with 13 locations and 130 employees statewide. His primary responsibilities will be preservation and access to Tennessee’s historical records at the State Library & Archives building on Capitol Hill, and overseeing the development of public libraries across the state through the Tennessee Regional Library System.
Mike Walker, Brentwood City Manager, said, “Chuck has done an outstanding job as Library Director since he came on-board almost 10 years ago. There is no question that his leadership has contributed greatly to us having the best community library in the State of Tennessee.
“While I will miss his competent, visionary leadership, I know and understand that being the top Librarian in the State of Tennessee is quite an honor and a great career move for him. He will have quite a challenge but I am confident that he can take our State Library and Archives to the next level too.”
Sherrill and his family will continue to live in Brentwood. He plans to stay active in the Friends of the Library and other community affairs, and to be an active patron of the Brentwood Library.
